INJURIES
What is Neck Pain?
Neck pain is a widespread ailment. The neck is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body, and, because it supports the weight of the head and has a significant amount of motion, is extremely prone to injury. Luckily, the majority of neck pain injuries are temporary, and can be corrected with stretching and strengthening exercises. Back and neck pain often go hand in hand. Common neck pain causes include trauma, slipped discs, arthritis, poor posture, poor sleep positioning, lack of exercise, worry and stress, and muscle pulls from carrying heavy objects such as groceries or an infant. Neck pain is seen more frequently in women than in men.Neck Pain Symptoms
Neck pain symptoms include general pain in the neck, as well difficulty turning or bending the head forward or leaning the head side to side. Neck muscles can be sore and tense. In more acute cases and in chronic neck pain, radiating neck and shoulder pain or pain radiating between the shoulder blades can occur. Radiating pain in arms or hands may cause headaches and pins and needles sensation in arms and fingers are additional chronic neck pain symptoms. How we can help with neck pain relief
Neck pain therapy includes moist heat and electrical stimulation to help relieve the tension built up in the neck area. Neck pain exercises begin with relaxation techniques to aid the release of tension in the neck muscles and move on to stretching exercises. Strength and endurance exercises will then be taught in an optimized sequence to build up neck muscles and the whole upper body, to help prevent re-injury.If you or someone you know could benefit from neck pain treatment, please contact the North South Physical Therapy clinic nearest you to speak to one of our licensed physical therapists.
